As the year started coming to an end, the promotion of Namit Malhotra’s film Ramayana also picked up pace. During an interaction with IGN at San Diego Comic-Con in the US, actor Yash joined the conversation along with co-star Ranbir Kapoor, director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra.
Actor Yash said that portraying Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana came with extra pressure. He explained that many actors had already played the role and people already had their own views about the character. There have been many films, TV serials, folk songs and plays based on Ravana. The actor further added, “If you know the character and everybody is aware of it, then it becomes challenging. If it’s a new film where you are telling a new story, whatever you do, that will become the character. But if people already have some image about it since so many people have played it in different ways, then it’s extra pressure for an actor.”
Ramayana: Yash Recalls Childhood Stories of Ravana
Yash said that his understanding of Ravana was shaped by the stories his grandfather told him during childhood. He said it was probably one of the first stories he had heard as a child.
“My grandfather used to tell me these stories. You have your imagination and you have seen so many people depict this character in different ways. So what do you bring in as an actor and what is your understanding of the character was challenging. Thankfully, my director and writers have given me that space so I could play this character in a different way,” the actor said.
Sony Deal Delays Global Trailer Launch
Producer Namit Malhotra announced that the trailer launch had been postponed after the film secured an international distribution deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment. “Today is a very special moment for our Ramayana. My dream of taking Ramayana to the world is now a reality with our partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment. In light of the above, we will now be launching our trailer globally at a later date,” he wrote on social media.

Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is a two-part epic. The film features Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash as Lord Rama, Sita and Ravana, respectively. The supporting cast includes Ravi Dubey, Arun Govil, Sunny Deol, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh and others.
