Crores of misappropriation revealed in the scrutiny of documents on the basis of income tax return
Varanasi. The Income Tax Department team raided five big businessmen of the city together on Tuesday. There are traders of pan masala, real estate, vegetable masala, zari and saris in the raid. Due to the raids conducted by these traders at more than two and a half dozen places across the district, there was a stir among the traders associated with it. During the raid, the officers involved in the team, taking possession of the factory, warehouse, office etc., banned the movement. During this, the police force was deployed everywhere for security. On the basis of income tax return, the preliminary investigation of the documents shows the possibility of fraud of crores and tax evasion of lakhs.
About 40 teams have been formed for the raid under the leadership of Ajay Kumar, ADI of Income Tax Department. All the teams raided the factories, godowns, offices and related places of pan masala, real estate, vegetable masala, zari and sari traders together. The movement of everyone was banned during the raid. Income tax teams are investigating at four places (factory and warehouse), Soepur, Goithan, located in Premchand Nagar Colony, Pandeypur of Pan Masala trader. In many places, the teams returned after the completion of the investigation in the afternoon.
Apart from this, the team of the Income Tax Department also raided the vegetable spice trader. The team of the department has also started investigation regarding some staff of Kanpur. Apart from this, raids are going on in more than a dozen places of the city including Sigra, Nai Sadak, Alipur, Maldahiya, real estate, sari and zari traders. The Income Tax Department team is also investigating the houses and establishments of their partners. At all places, the Income Tax Department team is scrutinizing documents related to purchase and sale, bank passbooks, land related papers, FDs, bank lockers and income tax returns filed for the last several years. The officers have also seized laptops, tablets and computer hard disks.
